It is the highest alpine transversal in Europe and one of the steepest railways in the world. Enjoy the journey as you ride comfortably in the carriages with 360° panoramic views both in winter and in summer. The train travels on a slope of 70:1000 and climbs up the 2253 metres of the Bernina Pass to reach St. Moritz, the Engadine’s pearl.
Stelvio National Park is the largest historical national parks throughout the alpine area. It occupies the heart of the Central Alps and includes typical valleys which were shaped long ago by the action of ice and water flowing down from the imposing massif of the Ortles-Cevedale mountains. There are majestic ridges, thick forests and high mountain pastures crossed by foaming streams which spring from the perennial glaciers and create the natural landscape of the park. Many rare animal and plant species live in the many ecosystems which are present here, thanks to the remarkable range of heights and varied landscapes. The area is scattered with tiny villages and "masi" at the bottom of the valleys and on the mountain slopes. These are the charming rural and religious buildings which complete this picturesque setting, in harmony with their natural environment.
Other attractions outside the Park area which are worth a visit include:
Naturalistic Mineralogical Museum, dedicated to the world of minerals and the local Alpine environment.
Museo Vallivo della Valfurva "Mario Testorelli” These rooms accurately replicate the historic rooms of the old Valtellina houses.
A new generation of fun parks set in an ancient larchwood forest which is thousands of years old. It features four extensive aerial trails to explore, play and learn. Traverse the tree trunks, Nepalese bridges, vines and wooden footbridges. Visitors can have a great adventure at heights of up to 15 meters above the ground in this safe and natural environment.
The park is suitable for children and adults alike and gives all would-be climbers the opportunity to explore and climb trees without risk.
